After talking to peers about trying to
incorporate the use of chiselling into the book design, a few alternative ideas
where given:
-
“Have the cover made of a fabric that looks
like stone and emboss the title of the book into it”
While this is a simpler design process to
incorporate, I wanted to push what I could do for this project. This is a
viable option but it’s an option that most book designers use and i want this
book to be different and stand out
-
“Maybe laser cut into stone, but I’m not sure
if that’s possible. You’ll have to ask down in the workshop.”
This could really work if it’s possible, only
problem is that the only day I could get an induction or it was on the 26th
October which is o the last week of the project. Ill book it and will have to
try it but I’ll need another
-
“Could you ask that Steve Roche to do it for
you, to collaborate with a professional?”
While that could be really beneficial, the
time frame of the brief wouldn’t allow it as he has a bunch of projects on at
the moment. Also I couldn’t afford to hire him. No harm in asking though
-
“How about creating a design that gives the
illusion of the text being chiselled into the cover?”
While this could be designed into a good
looking cover, it’s sort of the same with the embossing one. It’s something
that most have already done.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I want to hopefully do something that hasn’t
been done before. To try and push what I can do for this project. I’ll have to see what Steve says when I see
him of Friday to get his opinion and if he might have any suggestions that
might know of. For now though I’m gonna chase up the laser cutting workshop
technicians to see what they think to the idea of laser cutting into stone
