OUGD503 Transformers Brief (Major project)

Past pixel based projects

Back on my foundation course I had a number of projects that I worked on that contained a pixel element to them. this sort i style is one i always seem go back to due to how much i enjoy doing it. for this project though, i wanted to look back at my old work and see what was good about it and what i can  be worked on for this brief:

End of year show

For our foundation year, i was asked to create the end of year show leavers video which was to showcase each persons work. In response to that I worked on recreating the walk to our studio in a pixelated style and to o this, i had to make each of the 64 people from the course into a pixel caricature. the style i went for was a really basic design that allowed me to quickly create each persons pixel avatar while also including enough detail from each person to have it so people can tell who each person was. while this was the biggest project I had done in this style i really enjoyed it and got a great response from my peers, so much so they all wanted to get hoodies and shirts with the designs on. while in my eyes it was a successful project, there are a few issues such as the designs don't give much in terms what can be done with them. For my brief now, i think i would have to create something at a larger scale perhaps but still keep the simplistic style that i have done in past projects.

Experimentation Project

trying to branch out with with my pixel art, i changed up the style to try something new. These versions focused on creating a more humanoid look to the designs. i began experimenting with shading and mussel mass (while basic) to help further this skill. whats weird, for me that us, is these designs look better with less detail on it from looking between the riddler on the bottom than others. i feel like this style could work for this project but i think if this was the style I end up using the i need to bulk out the designs.

not going to lie, working with mussel at this scale in pixel art has made some weird looking hulks, thankfully transformers don't have mussel to worry about.

these where side project i was doing to try and work on adding detail to my designs. These ones where variants from my Final major projects video but i wanted to push the designs to try an see what i could come up with. i took part in a few online pixel art tutorials to see how the pros go about bringing detail to their work. one of the main points that stuck with me was to highlight raised areas with a shade lighter than the tone used already. it might sound simple enough but before this i was stuck with using just a single colour within my work
