End of Module Evaluation
Now that the year is almost up and all of the modules are
coming to a close, I started to look over the work that I’ve done for each of
the modules and started to see the effects each of them have on each other. And
the main subject that dose this the most is design principles as from what I
can see it’s had an impact, on me that is, on each project we’ve done from all
the modules. For instance, my self-branding project from the personal
professional practice module has had a huge influence with me creating my own
books, or the public information publication from design practice (not one of
my favourite projects from the course). Not just that, the understanding I’ve
gained from the lectures and seminars has really progressed me as an individual
and an emerging graphic designer. With my new found knowledge I’ve been able to
tackle problems from projects from a different angle and see better ways of
solving them.
If I was to choose one of the seminars // tasks that’s
really stuck with me would have to be the type setting one as it was one of the
first times I’ve properly used InDesign and now its possibly one of the adobe
products I use the most. Thanks to this I’ve youse InDesign for most projects
(where needed) from my end of module presentation for my personal professional
practice to the books I made for this module. Along with this, I feel like I’ve
gained a better appreciation of the fundamental principles of the likes of
colour theory, Visual Literacy layout, format and typography all of which have
open doors for the different types of communication.
I have had a huge interest into the process of making a book
and which has been deepened since starting design principles. I’ve enjoyed the
experience of making something that you can physically hold, being able to
flick through it etc. With the way design principles has been this year and how
much I’ve gained // enjoyed it, I cant wait to get stuck into next years one. I
have to say, I still need to work on making the book, as I’ve had my fair share
of mistakes and to be more accurate when it comes to cutting the book down to
size and I hope to work on these in the upcoming year // to carry on
experimenting with it during my summer.
