Poster Research
Movie posters from japan normally follow the same pattern of having red text on top of a white background with the image of the film in the center. This colour scheme seems to be based off of the Japanese flag and its seen across most of the film posters from the same area from time the seven samurai was released. While the film posters have a photograph element to them, I wanted to dabble in a more illustrative path as its something that ive not done in a while.
Japan has been subject to sudden invasions of new and strange ideas followed by long periods of minimal contact with the outside world. Over time the Japanese developed the ability to absorb, imitate, and finally assimilate those elements of foreign culture that complemented their aesthetic preferences
Painting is the preferred artistic expression in Japan, practiced by amateurs and professionals alike. Until modern times, the Japanese wrote with a brush rather than a pen, and their familiarity with brush techniques has made them particularly sensitive to the values and aesthetics of painting
Japanese Jomon Period
The Jomon Period is the earliest historical era of Japanese history which began around 10,000 BCE. the art from this period is really something as japan had no contact with the outside world at this point, The art that was made was mainly ceramics and sculptures but the patterns on them are something that really interests me. they almost look sci-fi in nature. its even inspired the latest zelda game with these aesthetics
